Carol M. DiNicola
With the passing of summer and on the first day of autumn, Carol M. DiNicola passed away in her home with the company of her husband and children.
Carol was born in Minersville, Pa., on Dec. 16, 1927. One of three children of George McCloskey and Gertrude Stutzman.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerome DiNicola, and was a loving mother to one son, Jerry John DiNicola Jr. and two daughters, Carolyn DiNicola-Fawley and Janet DiNicola-Reinhardt, both residing in Brattleboro, Vt.
Carol was a graduate of Minersville High School in 1945 and Kutztown State Teachers College (now Kutztown University). Upon graduation, she taught English and Library Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University Center in Pottsville, Pa. Subsequently, she worked for the Hoffman LaRoche Pharmaceutical Co. in Nutley, N.Y. Following this, she was the librarian of the Engineering Library at Penn State University at State College, Pa. Her passion for teaching and learning and a strong commitment to equal access to education for all was communicated during her 14 years as a teacher in the Wood County System, principally in substitute position in many of the local junior high schools.
She was very active with the Wood County Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) and State ARC as a public speaker and advocate working closely with the Junior League in establishing the Sheltered Workshops in Parkersburg.
She was very active in church activities at the Christ Lutheran Church in Vienna and the First Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Vienna, and subsequent interment and graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Mount Peace Cemetery in Minersville, Pa.
