PARKERSBURG - An Olive Street man who works for Wood County Schools has been arrested on child pornography and incest charges.
Lonnie Wayne Moore Sr., 45, of 517 Olive St., Parkersburg, was arrested around 11 a.m. Tuesday, said Detective F.C. Holliday of the Parkersburg Police Department. Moore was being held in the North Central Regional Jail on $40,000 bond after he was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court on felony charges of incest and possession of child pornography, said Chief Gerald Board.
Moore is employed as a computer technician by Wood County Schools, Holliday said. However, the charges against Moore at this time do not involve students, he said.
Holliday said a member of Moore's family contacted the police department after finding images depicting children in sexual acts on computers borrowed from Moore.
"We got a complaint Sunday from a family member," Holliday said. "It seemed pretty reliable so we typed up a search warrant and got approval from a magistrate."
Investigators Tuesday seized several computers from Moore's home and found alleged child pornography, Holliday said. One of the children depicted in some of the images is another family member of Moore's, he said.
"We got into the computers and found a lot of child pornography. Some of it had been downloaded off of the Internet and some of it was self-made," Holliday said. "During the investigation we found photographs of him and a family member. Right now we only know of one local victim, but there may be others."
The children depicted in the photographs ranged from very young to in their teens, Holliday said.
Holliday said Moore's job as a computer technician for local schools had him spending a great deal of time in most of the area's schools.
"He apparently worked in all the schools from elementary to high school. However, there is no indication at this time of students being involved," Holliday said.
It is possible that some of the computers containing child pornography images were school property.
"He had a lot of computers at his house from working on them for the schools," Holliday said.
Holliday said this is the third child pornography case in recent weeks. In unrelated cases, police arrested Dennis Joseph Burke on Aug. 28 and Scott Armand Jalbert on July 31.
"People need to keep track of their children. They cannot be trusting of anyone. It's obvious that this kind of thing can happen around here," Holliday said.
Wood County Schools Superintendant Bill Niday said school officials plan to conduct an investigation into the matter beginning today.
