PARKERSBURG - A motorist was injured Thursday after striking a utility pole on Murdoch Avenue.
Rhonda S. Blair, 803 16th St., Vienna, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital after the 11:33 a.m. crash near Pars Brain and Spine Center on Murdoch Avenue, said Lt. Dale McEwuen of the Parkersburg Police Department. Hospital officials said she was in good condition.
Blair was driving a 1996 Subaru Impreza north on Murdoch Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle, which went off the right side of the road, McEwuen said.
The vehicle struck a utility pole, but kept going despite having a 12-foot hunk of the pole stuck to the front bumper and running through the hood, up the smashed windshield and protruding over the top of the vehicle.
The car finally came to rest a short distance up the road on the opposite side of the street beside the Big Sandy Superstore.
An eyewitness to the crash said the driver was in the middle lane when the car suddenly veered right across traffic and into the pole. The eyewitness told police the car continued down Murdoch Avenue before it came to stop in the left lane of the road beside the Big Sandy store.
"She was flying," the eyewitness said.

OH darn...my comment appears odd. I meant a 2,500 lb projectile. And, "The SUV Swerved...." thus creating the accident and not the driver.

Based on the facts... We post comments based on our thoughts, (rational or not) on what we read. Most accidents that make the news are due to driver error, not mechanical. For me, I pay attention to the "idiots" that run stop signs or red lights. They create the most dangerous accident, (t-bone) scenario. So forgive us if we post comments that call out the selfish driver! If you are behind the wheel of a 2500 missle flying down the road talking, eating, applying hygiene items or whatever...Simply don't!!!! Two courses of actions here: Faulty car: everyone sues the car company, everyone wins. Faulty driver: everyone sues the careless driver, everyone but the driver and insurance company wins. I only hope that the law steps in admonishes her severely for her poor driving and lack of judgement. Gosh, I enjoy venting on these blogs. Does a subaru qualify as an SUV? If so, rewrite the article to 3rd person/entity and blame the SUV and not the driver. "THE SUV SW

It could have been a medical or mechanical problem. It amazes me how quickly some people here judge others, based only on the scant details of a news report. Imagine this happened to your loved one, then you came here and saw her called an idiot.

Interesting that they didn't report the age of this idiot. Whatever her age, her license needs to be revoked forever.

That must have been an important phone call or text if she kept on driving.
