Local RAZE chapter first in region
Special to The NewsMIDDLEBOURNE - While it may look like an Oscar, the Tyler RAZE Chapter's second trophy in as many years for best RAZE for RESA 5 actually has more meaning.
The chapter was presented with a trophy at the state convention or state "RAZE ON." Robert Allen, chapter adviser, was also named as best "RAZE Adviser" for RESA 5 at the state scholarship dinner, marking the second time this honor has been bestowed him.
RAZE is designed to attack "big tobacco" on the grassroots level and spread the gospel about the dangers of tobacco use.
Rounding up, but not by much, Allen said the Tyler Chapter staged 600 razes during the 2007 and 2008 school year.
Not an acronym, RAZE is the capitalized emphasis bent on sacking or pillaging tobacco companies through information in what are called commotions - a Trojan horse made up of teenagers speaking to their peers and any others who will listen.
Last year Allen rode herd on 48 students, an average number for the Tyler Chapter since created in 2001. Prior to the new millennium, the anti-tobacco group was called T3, Teens Terminating Tobacco and before that, Scat.
Allen first became involved with the predecessors and now RAZE in 1998.
