Marietta’s Bronski wins event

Top Flite Junior Tour headed to Riverside today

RAVENSWOOD — The second stop on the Top Flite Junior Tour, which was played here Tuesday at Greenhills Country Club, provided for some great golfing among the four age groups, but Marietta’s Cameron Bronski was the only repeat winner as he once again captured the 13-14 age group.

Bronski, who defeated Charleston’s David Miller Jr. in a playoff on Monday for the title in the first event at the Golf Club of West Virginia, fired a 5-over 77 on the 6,252-yard, par 72 layout.

Cairo’s Jordan Shaffer carded an 82 to take runner-up honors in the 13-14 division. Miller had another tough setback in a playoff for the second successive afternoon as he lost on the first extra hole to Parkersburg’s Austin Root.

The Marriott low round of the day award went to Hurricane’s Brian Anania. Playing in his first Top Flite event, Anania finished with a 1-over 73 to take top honors in the 15-16 age group and at the same time best runner-up Brandon Fivecoait of Vincent, who completed his round with a 76.

Harry Howell of Madison (77), Andrew Skeens of Charleston (78) and Washington’s Josh Webb (78) rounded out the top five in the 15-16 division.

In the 17-18 age group, things came down to a four-man playoff as Carson Schambach of Glen Dale and Clark Priddy of Nitro faced off for first after shooting 76s. Likewise, Scott Prince of Daniels and Charleston’s Bosten Miller locked up in the battle for third after they each checked in with 77s.

Schambach, who won at the GCWV with a 70 on Monday, lost his playoff bid and finished second.

The battle for third went the way of Prince this time as he defeated Miller. Miller, a Capital High School golf standout, actually knocked off Prince Monday in a playoff for third after they had each fired rounds of 73.

Parkersburg’s Matthew Hess and Lowell’s Daniel Perry finished with 78s in the 17-18 division to tie for fifth place along with Chris Carter of Tornado and Thomas Moss.

A single stroke was all that kept Charleston’s Christian Casingal from a playoff in the 12-and-under division. However, Casingal’s 86 wasn’t quite good enough as he fell just short to Marietta’s Kyle Bronski. At the GCWV, Bronski was runner-up and Casingal was third.

Monday’s 12-and-under victor — Sydney Snodgrass of Harrisville — was a couple of strokes away from her second win on the TFJT but finished with an 89, still good enough for third ahead of Charleston’s Aaron Persily (91), Dylan Cress of Mineral Wells (94) and Sam Petty of Belpre (96).

TFJT chairman and founder Larry Martin, who started all this 25 years ago, was glad the weather cooperated once again and is anxious to get the third stop going at 8:30 a.m. today when the golfers hit Riverside Golf Club.

Martin said the new merger with the West Virginia Golf Association is going according to plan and he hopes they can have a very long relationship.

“In this state we’ve got to join all the forces we can and they have so many resources that we can take advantage of,” Martin said.

“We’ve got a great product and I think it’s kind of the best of both worlds.”
