Richard L. “Dick” Schmidt, 60, of Parkersburg, passed away May 9, 2008.
He was born May 24, 1947, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Everett and Jennie Schmidt.
Dick graduated from PHS in1967 and joined the Army. He was stationed at Fort Polk until he was sent to Vietnam. For the last 27 years he worked at Selby General Hospital in the maintenance department. Dick loved horseback riding and spending time outdoors. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janice, and son, Jason and his wife, Tabitha, all of Parkersburg; two brothers, Bill Schmidt of Parkersburg and Dave Schmidt of North Carolina; three sisters, Grace Simms and Jane Bailes, both of Parkersburg, and Janice Lee Tackett of St. Clairsville; and several nieces, nephews and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings: sister, Mary Willis; brother, Hartman Schmidt and a set of twins that died shortly after birth.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Wayne Brown officiating. Burial will be in Cairo Masonic Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
There will be a reception for family and friends at the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department, Waverly, at 4 p.m. Monday.
