VIENNA — Five people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Friday on Grand Central Avenue.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. near Toys ‘R’ Us, said Patrolman Mike Pifer, Vienna Police Department.
A 1988 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Jason DeLancey, 32, 404 West Eighth St., Williamstown, was southbound on Grand Central Avenue followed by a 1996 Chrysler Sebring driven by Brandy I. Mackey, 22, 707 Neale St., Parkersburg, Pifer said.
The Suburban was slowing down for traffic at a traffic light when it was struck in the rear by the Sebring, Pifer said.
Both drivers were injured. DeLancey was taken to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. Mackey was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
In addition, two passengers in the Suburban, a 16-year-old St. Marys girl and Shawn Flesher, 34, of 511 Morgan Ave., St. Marys, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to CCMH, Pifer said.
Pifer said a passenger in the Sebring, Mona Basala, 46, of 902 Latrobe St., Parkersburg, also was injured and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Everyone involved was treated and released, Pifer said.
The Suburban sustained moderate damage and the Sebring was likely a total loss, he said.
Charges are pending against Mackey, Pifer said.
The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department responded along with paramedics from St. Joseph’s Ambulance Service and CCMH.
Officials had the scene cleaned up in about an hour, Pifer said. Two southbound lanes of Grand Central Avenue were shut down during that time.
