PARKERSBURG — One of two men involved in a 2006 incident entered a plea agreement Tuesday in Wood County Circuit Court.
Stephen Patrick Anderson, 50, in custody at North Central Regional Jail, entered a plea agreement with the state to plead guilty to kidnapping in an indictment from March 27, 2007.
According to the plea agreement, the state made a non-binding recommendation for Anderson to be sentenced to 10 years in prison. Judge Jeffrey Reed set the sentencing for 2 p.m. July 2. Anderson was remanded to custody.
He and his brother David Allen Anderson, 53, were charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, two counts of battery, two counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm, assault and brandishing from an October 2006 incident.
David Anderson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping, battery and brandishing on Feb. 7. He was sentenced to concurrent sentences of one year each on the charges, along with conditions that he complete a substance abuse assessment from the day report center and 100 hours of community service if it is not deemed detrimental to Anderson’s health.
According to police reports, Stephen Anderson allegedly held Stephanie Broadwater, 21, of Parkersburg at gunpoint in his home and his brother David Anderson, 52, of 1296 Bird St., Parkersburg, had a knife. They were there to collect a debt owed by one of the alleged victims, police said.
A second alleged victim, James Layne of Parkersburg, was advised to leave to get an undisclosed amount of cash or Broadwater would be killed, police said. Layne left the residence and contacted police. Both men were arrested without incident and a firearm was recovered as evidence, police said.
