Amelia Rose Lockhart-Battenhausen, 19, departed this life after a brief illness on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Teays Valley Hospital in Hurricane, W.Va.
She was born Nov. 2, 1988, in Charleston, W.Va., a daughter of William R. and Bertha M. “Tiny” Sampson, formerly of Elizabeth, W.Va., and Gary E. Lockhart of Liberty, W.Va. She was a courageous young woman with a zest for life that could be matched by few. She was smart, funny and artistic, with a flair for writing poetry and loved the outdoors. Her adoration for children was well known, as was her uncanny ability to find the humor in every situation. She possessed a smile that could light up a room and she will be truly and deeply missed by many.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Andrew Louis Battenhausen; brother, Nicholas A. E. Lockhart of Liberty, W.Va.; half-brothers, Michael Starcher of Rockport, W.Va., and John Eagle of Charleston, W.Va.; stepbrothers, Jaron Sampson of Chloe, W.Va., and Brandon Sampson of Ypsilanti, Mich.; maternal grandparents, Ottie and Pauline (Nutter) Brumfield of Elizabeth, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Delbert and Betty Lockhart of Hurricane, W.Va.; stepgrandparents, Clarence and Doris Dunlap of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and, of course, friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, the Rev. Everette Nutter of Elizabeth; and her stepgrandfather, Harold Sampson of Arnoldsburg, W.Va.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home in Elizabeth with the Rev. Delmas Stutler officiating. Interment will be at Pine Twist Cemetery in Elizabeth. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
