County GOP convention scheduled for Saturday
From Staff Reports
POSTED: January 3, 2008
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Republican Party convention to vote for at-large delegates to the West Virginia Republican Party Presidential Convention will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Fort Boreman Conference Room of the Judge Donald F. Black Courthouse Annex.
All Republicans registered to vote as of Nov. 30 are eligible to cast a ballot for at-large delegates to the convention, which will be held Feb. 5 at the Charleston Convention Center, said Beverly Lockhart, chairman of the Wood County Republican Party Executive Committee.
Wood County Republicans, who can also vote online until Jan. 14, will choose 31 at-large delegates at the caucus, she said.
Twelve members of each county executive committee and all the members of the state executive committee and Republican Legislators are delegates.
In addition, Wood County has 31 bonus delegates, reflecting the Republican voter registration.
“I’m, very excited about this process that is giving so many people from this county the opportunity to actually affect our party’s choice for the presidential nominee in 2008,” Lockhart said.
While other states will be voting on “Tsunami Tuesday,’’ West Virginia is the only state where Republicans are holding a convention to make its decision.
Originally, 20 counties intended to hold a convention, said Bob Fish, a vice chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. However, counties with fewer registered candidates for at-large delegate than their allotment don’t have to hold the election, he said.
Party chairmen can appoint additional members, Fish said.
Also holding conventions are Berkeley, Fayette, Harrison, Jefferson, Marion, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pleasants and Tucker counties.
Tabulations should be compiled within a few days after voting has closed, Fish said.
Wood County candidates and who they support are:
Nicholas Shaw Albanese, Ron Paul; Jim Ashley II, Rudy Giuliani; Kelly Bahr, Mitt Romney; Warren W. Bigley, Mitt Romney; Daniel Byler, Mitt Romney; Randall B Clark, Ron Paul; Patty Cooper, Fred Thompson; Ashley Cole Craft, Mike Huckabee; Cierra Dawn Craft, uncommitted; Becky Deem, Rudy Giuliani; William Elefritz, Ron Paul; Barbara N. County convention good idea. A state convention is a bad idea. It disenfranchises the state voters. We want the people of the state to feel part of their government and that starts with the nomination and election of candidates. BUT if you have just a handful of politicians deciding who is going to represent the will of the entire state -- this isn't right! Just as not being able to vote for the referendum on the Table Games -- the general feeling of the state citizens is disenfranchisement. People are better citizens when they have an opportunity to be part of the process. And, just how trustworthy is the group who will be making the decision in Charleston on Feb. 5th? What about a computer system that has not been tested? Too many WHAT IFs!

Ron Paul, 2008, FTW. We are tired of the lame stream media, the yellow journalism, the lies, the wars, the broken dollar, the identity politics and the military industrial complex. America is waking up to freedom and liberty. Its our last chance to have them again if we chose to walk with Ron Paul. If we don't chose him, we will become more authoritarian and America will no longer be what the founders wanted it to be and it will become a*****on earth with a dropping standard of living.
