Little Kanawha once was vital transportation link

The Little Kanawha River has provided a geographic divide between the north and south sides of the city of Parkersburg since the earliest settlements.

A sheet of metal surrounding one of the concrete cells which make up the Wells Dam has come undone and has become a potential hazard. Wirt County officials are also concerned about the level of erosion underneath some of the cells of the structure located just outside Elizabeth along the Little Kanawha River.
