Located across the Ohio River from Marietta, Ohio, Williamstown, W.Va., is a small but thriving community that boasts schools, businesses, parks, recreation and affordable housing.

The area has seen a rebirth in its downtown area where a historic train depot was refurbished and now houses a gift shop.

TheĀ Mid-Ohio Valley Regional AirportĀ also is on the town's outskirts. It's the only airport in the region and provides service to Washington Dulles International Airport.

Williamstown has a high school and two elementary schools and is part of the Wood County school system. It has a full-time police department and a volunteer fire department.

The city uses a commission form of government with a mayor and four council members. Each council member is in charge of a department, such as streets, finances or water works. They are elected for four-year terms, with two being selected every two years. The mayor is elected for a two-year term.
