W.Va.'s Butler earns Big East honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler is the Big East basketball player of the week.



The award was announced Sunday.



Butler averaged 21.5 points and eight rebounds as the Mountaineers finished the regular season with two wins.



He scored 22 points in a win over Georgetown in his final home game last Monday. He followed that up with 21 points in a win Saturday at Villanova, including the go-ahead basket with 5.8 seconds left in overtime.



West Virginia opens Big East tournament play Thursday.
