I want a gate put up across my street. That will make it safe for kids and pedestrians to walk. My request is for safety reasons. Not just to prevent a nuisance of excess traffic or noise.

Here is the answer: permanently close off the Vienna end of the development! Remove the gates and install a wall. Then Wyndemere will be like Meadowcrest and Willowbrook. The same way in and out! As for my councilperson, i have never met mine. He has never introduced himself to me. I sure do miss Demo! Demo would drive around his district and take an interest and stop to say hello!

I don't usually comment on topics concerning city issues. But I have to agree with the majority here. If we {the city} are to pay for the paving these streets, then our city workers should be doing the work.... As for the gate issue. There's NO exception for anyone in the city. TAKE IT DOWN! I have, in the past requested speed bumps to be installed on my street and was turned down by the city, because it is a public street. NO PRIVATE GATES IN OUR CITY... One other thing, what PROBLEMS of access would this gate present to our city services personnel, like the fire dept, police dept, trash collection, street department?? Who pays for maintenance and future costs of the GATE???

Tear down the gate, fix the road. No subdivision should have any right to block any public road access from anywhere if the public is who will ultimately pick up the tab for their repairs.

Well let's say residents of Wyndemere are adding extra traffic on 12th Street tearing up the road to access the stop light at Grand Central. Vienna should put up a toll booth for Wyndemere residents to pass through on 12th street. Sorry guys.Gate down or no paving. Period. Just because someone doesn't agree does not make them jealous of Wyndemere residents, funny! There is a reason Vienna didn't want to annex them anyways!!

Here is the bottom line. If the City of Parkersburg annexed this subdivision into the city that pretty much lets the developer and residents out of "their" problem and the city needs to pave it. The bigger problem is that they are letting them keep the gate up and potentially use it as a thoroughfare for residents only. Some have explained that it is the residents gate and they can do what they want with their gate, true, but it is the city's road and they can do what they want such as building a block or concrete wall so nobody can use the "gate". This would be fair to all, wyndemere residents would get their road paved and nobody can cut through to Vienna. I am sure due to this fiasco that Wyndemere streets will be much busier as I plan on parking up there, driving through there, etc. Remember, if the city spends the money and lets them to continue to use the gate, then let's vote them out of office next term.

Yanks 70k/year is not wealthy. Sorry bud. Regardless, the community isn't private...anyone can travel the roads. They pay the same taxes. They deserve to have their roads fixed. And the fact that some of the more conservative council members are voting for this much spending should tell you something. My only beef is that if taxes are paying for it, then public workers should be doing it.

Newell is just a speck of the iceberg. We have a lot more problems with most all aspects of our county and city govt. even state. Their money and cronies allow them to rule over the rest of us!

@ voice...iam wealthy and i'm also smart enough not to live on a hillside built by a developer that's not being held accountable for the roads sliding and caving in...this is an issue between the developer and homeowners NOT the city...if it's gated then it's a private...why is this an issue now that the road is crap?...it wasn't an issue when it was usable...

Since Wyndemere is a city street and will be paved and maintained by the city I have every right to drive on that road even though there is a gate on one end. I plan to ride my Harley through there quite often.

The city has nothing to do with the public schools...if you're going to make a point...at least make it valid. My problem with this is they want our money, but do not want to allow all Parkersburg citizens to travel on the roads our money will be repairing. Take the gate down, or deal with your own roads is my take on the situation. You wanted a private "gated" community, then deal with that decision!

I see both sides of this argument. For starters, yanks25 and Fatman are clearly petty people who are angry at anyone better off then they are; the economic status of the residents should be irrelevant. However, the statement that the "city hasn't done anything" is ridiculous. Do you get water from the city? Do the kids go to public schools? As long as the residents abide by the same laws and pay the same taxes then their roads should be fixed, but I'm tired of everyone acting like a victim.

'Fatman" and "yanks25" why did the city annex Wyndemere in the first place? It had the gate then to, didn't it?

"We've been part of the city since 1999 and the city hasn't done anything for us since 1999," Migliore said. booo freaking hoo...i've been part of the city a heck of a lot longer than that and they haven't done anything for me either...i'm in rockhold's district...if he votes for this, i vote against him next round...this is pathetic and is an insult to all of us who live "outside the gates"...
