Not arguing one way or the other. But if they actually do finish the building and start doing business, it has got to be a better investment than leaving a vacant building for any more years. Good luck...

So the developers get $200,000 and a free lot? Where do I sign up for this program?

"I think Mayor Newell should be commended..."- What did he do besides promise to give tax breaks and give away other people's money?

Folks should believe it when they see it and take a good look at the quality of the final product ... if there ever is one. This building has stood as the trophy of our declining downtown and city. It has greeted visitors as an eyesore as they travel on one of the busiest roads in WV. As city code officials look the other way The Uptowner building has fallen into an ugly state of disrepair. Now the owner is playing a seedy game with taxation ... and guess who pays? Every hardworking citizen and business owner that keeps their house or storefront in good shape and pay their fair share! They will foot the bill as the rich and connected get richer! Look what the last great housing project turned into on Avery St. I feel sorry for Leavitts, who have tried to keep their property looking good but then have to look out the window and see what their lazy slumlord neighbor has done the past 30 years!

I think Mayor Newell should be commended for his effort to reopen the Uptowner Inn. This could motivate more businesses to locate downtown.
