JB: The budget wasn't off by 25%. The money of what was expected to be left over at the end of the year was down 25%. If they give the employees a raise then next year the money will have to be found to keep paying for that raise and try to give them another. They can't count on have money left over to continue making raises. The budget might get too tight to allow for it. Give them a significant bonus and do it again when the money is there.

Phoenix, will you ever learn that the Wood County Commission has nothing to do with the pay of city employees? It sounds like the only one concerned with keeping quality employees for Wood County is Mr. Six.

I wonder how they could miss the budjet by 25%? Also what is the average salary for county workers?

@sharkbitten: Get over it. How many times are you going to cry about Couch being a tax evader. It doesn't matter what screen name you use, a whiner will always be a whiner.

If it was really that cut and dry, don't you think the county would have collected. While I don't like the idea that these taxes are unpaid, I do not believe it is his burden to bear. If you bought a business and it owed debt, you then become liable for that debt. That is pretty basic logic to most of us.

Do you want to do something about it? Run for his commissioners seat and impose the tax burden to him. Oh wait, you tried that already and didn't get the votes.

While I do think that the county employees deserve a raise, I do not see the necessity to make a rash decision without gathering all the pertinent information. Though the county employees are not living as easily as they think they should, they are by no means struggling to make a living. If you want to make a serious debacle and ruin the luxuries you have, go ahead and form a union. You will be sorely disappointed when you get a 10 cent raise every year and nothing else to go along with it but union dues. That is definitely not a viable option. I believe the commissioners have a tough decision and will make the right choice but I applaud them for not making a decision based on emotion. We pay them to make these tough choices and like it or not, they are doing their job. Do you have a problem with that? Vote them out, if not, get over it. And think about the money they do give away; if they didn't, you would be crying about how they do nothing to support the community.

Those who work for the county need a pay raise,it's there income to raise a family, pay tax ,etc.etc.Now you see why employees need a union, keep forcing these employees and that is what you will get.

Just because surrounding municipalities have given raises is NO reason to give a raise. The money is not there for a raise. City employees in general do NOT deserve a raise. Don't do this. It is not right and it will just leave the commission scheming on how to take the money from someone else to pay for it.

Then you have the nerve to propose a 15 cents raise.. I feel sorry the people who work in your dental office, they must all be on food stamps. I know of some employees with over 25 yrs of service and they still make a low income wage. Fuel has gone up, a gal of milk has doubled, the price of food in general has gone through the roof, and yet you keep denying your employees a increase.Did into that rainy day fund.. it's been pouring for 5 yrs straight and your employees are drowning!!

Well, here we go.. everyone jump on the merry go round. Six I applaud you for your comment. Yes they do give money away with no regards to their employees. why do they do that, well it saves them face, makes them look good. The employees.. they don't see them, they come in go into their little office, close the door and make sure they are gone before anyone can stop them to ask any questions. They are cowards. Oh, but come election time.. they are front and center. Well this voter will NOT vote for any of them every again. They have done nothing for this county, or it's employees. Did you see Dunn's statement "We need to do something for the employees; we haven't done anything for them for the five years I've been here. I think the right thing is to give something, and we need to keep looking for additional revenue sources. I know we can give them something and we can work it out in the budget later," Of coarse you haven't done anything, and gee that's how long you've been i
