If we are to play all games on the road what happens to other sports that don't get a lot of revenue (like volleyball, soccer, wrestling )they run concession stand for some of their revenue. Also who pays for transportation to all away games for big reds, little reds, and freshman teams .lets play all games at south side then field will be so bad they won't get home playoff game if they qualify.

@mttawhrrs: What is childish is to relay information on a public forum you admitted you heard as a "rumor", without first verifying such information. Spreading rumors will only provoke more hatred between both Parkersburg schools. The "this school has been done wrong, is better than the other, and deserves more" game has been overplayed for far too many years. Was South cheated when the high school was built? Absolutely, but the students of today had nothing to do with what occurred 40 years ago. Why are they being punished? Like I said in my previous comment, it is the adults that keep the animosity going. It is time to let bygones be bygones and support all 4 Wood County high schools.

@Privatized: I apologize if you mistook the message of my comment. I was not condoning PHS's refusal to play at Erickson. My intention was to explain that if the Marietta and Warren games were to take place on their fields, it would be because that is generally what happens when one opponent has an inadequate field, not because someone refused to play at another location not in any way related to either team. It would be silly to place more damage on the Erickson field, rather than to simply move the game to the opposing team's field.

Wow! I graduated from PHS and both South and PHS were known for Wrestling. Both schools were the powerhouses, not football. I had never seen adults act like kids because most of my friends (girls) were from South.. I have made many life long friends from across the river and to have adults from both sides act like spoiled children is embarrassing. I would donate to both schools.

I graduated from PHS in the 70's. When were in junior high school, we were all indoctrinated to become a BIG RED. It was a pride thing, I guess. I remember when Susan Gardner spear-headed a drive to spiff up Stadium Field (she did an excellent job.) It seems to me that no one associated with PHS wants to use Erickson Field. It's a shame, but it's not a recent shame. It goes back to the 60's when the schools divided. I sometimes wonder what will happen when the population drops so low that they will consider combining the schools again. All H*** will break loose.

Someone needs to do their homework before they continue to spread rumors. Rick Leach's actual comments on the matter: "Rick Leach, Athletic Director at Parkersburg South High School, which plays at Erickson. First, he says South has not been approached by PHS to play there this fall. Leach says the issue South would have with another school playing on Erickson's field is the wear on the field's natural turf. While Erickson has grass, Stadium Field has artificial turf, and Leach adds, South's soccer team plays there as well.

He has a valid point of the wear and tear on the field and the safety of all Wood Co. teams who would have to utilize the facility.

what they need to do is make parkersburg south stadium bigger, and then both teams can play there. Its football, let the kids have fun, who cares where it is played at.

FYYFDA, you just haven't been talking to enough people. There are plenty that keep the prejudice toward South Parkersburg going. Some will even refuse employment to anyone residing south of the river, I've lived it, so don't tell me it's not so.

Put on a South t-shirt and wear it around the north "slide" (as opposed to the popular slur south slide) long enough and you'll hear plenty!

JoinForces, you couldn't be any farther out in left field. Rumor or not, PHS plays South, but you think it's ok for them to refuse the use of Erickson Field.

I agree with JoinForces, adults need to grow up and act like adults. It is high school football for goodness sakes. Negative and hateful comments are not needed but we see them on the comment board everyday. Some people must be miserable and they must enjoy trying to spread their misery. Froggylake's comment is very childish and ignorant and should be omitted from the comment section. PSHS and PHS are both Parkersburg teams and the community should support both equally.

Like I said "a rumor". I don't know if that is really what was said because I didn't hear it myself but I was told that they would play ALL of their games at one of those 3 locations. To assume I don't understand the difference between home and away games is a bit childish isn't it? JoinForces your not one of those childish adults that you speak of are you?

It's sad to see all of the petty comments, bickering, and rumor mills running rampant every time there is an article regarding the issues at Stadium Field. What's even sadder is that it is adults who keep the nasty side of the rivalry going. The kids today do not see what side of the river they live on. While they have fun with the rivalry on the field, you'd be surprised how many are friends OFF the field. It's too bad these childish adults can't take a lesson from the kids. And as far as your comment mtthwhrrs, it is true that the games may be played at Marietta and Warren, but that is because those are the teams they are playing, not because they refuse to play at Erickson. That's usually the way it is when two teams play. If one team doesn't have a useable field, the game moves to the opposing team's field. Quit trying to turn this into something more than it is. An almost 100 year old field that needs more repairs than can be afforded at the present time.

I told them that they should bite the bullet, play all the 2013 games AWAY, and do some serious fund-raising to rebuild the stadium from scratch. But NOOOOOOO. And I'll tell you why:

Jim Fox has a kid that plays football. This is the only reason that everyone was so hot and bothered to have a season with 5 home games. Guess what? Bad idea, like I told you.

I heard a rumor that Rick Leach (South AD) offered to let PHS use Erickson field whenever possible and he was flatly told they will not play their games at Erickson. They would prefer to play at Marietta, Warren or Ripley. If this is true I say screw em, scrap the football program this year and wait until they have a stadium. Why should tax payers pay for the football teams travel expenses because they are too proud to play on the other side of the river.

As a graduate of PHS, it has always upset me that the school and BOE puts so much towards the football program, yet ignores needs with respect to academics. It has always been my belief that a public school system is not in place to create professional athletes, but to create well educated young people who are prepared for the needs of the workforce and further education. The Board lacks the ability to do what is best for the entire population, and chooses to do what is best for a minority, the football players in this case.

My basis is, there was no concern to shut down the football stadium prior to the last football game in the fall, although the issues existed and were known, and the push is for the stadium to open for football season, not soccer or track.

I wish the BOE would put half the effort towards the academic issues that they put towards the football teams issues...

Football isn't the only fall sport that plays on stadium field. It will adversely affect the PHS soccer teams, too.

If a kid in school doesn't show up ,he needs a written excuse, right? Then Yeater needs to tell the public where is was, or HIT THE ROAD.

Save up the money; then pay for it. Don't do some half ***ed job and act like YOU have saved the day. Football can wait or they can ask to use other venues until the stadium can be fixed properly.

Simply play the game at Stadium Field without attendance until the seating is complete. Do a little soul searching and determine why you play the game, because you enjoy the game or because you have to have someone watch you play.
