Jane Harrington told the board kids can't be punished for the lack of parental responsibility.

Yes and No. How dare you imply parents do not want to provide for their children, I hope you know that torment.

The free/reduced lunch program covers more children than the food stamp program. If someone qualifies for welfare assistance, then qualify for free lunch. Why should a doctor/lawyer/etc get a free bill when they have the means to pay it? The program we have is sufficient for now. Why burden the taxpayers more if it really isn't necessary?

What else happened at the meeting? Law's contract was to be discussed. Was it?

This program is not going to go away because our BOE denied it. It will just go to those who want it, "outside our own community."

Remember the free lunch is for children not adults. They do not get cash, but food. Where else do you see tax dollars go directly to the purpose they were created. Politics is getting mixed into what is "best for kids."

Keep to the original article, not personal vendettas! Feed children! Froggylake take one of those 20 hour per week jobs that you see throughout the community. Then try to pay all of your bills: gas to get to work, rent or mortgage payments, car insurance, food for the home, utilities, clothes for the kids, etc. Let's see how far the pay from that job will go.

@mamabear71 You were incorrect when you said " don't get turned away from the cafe for ANY reason. Gone are the days when you have to pay cash or buy a lunch ticket--parents are billed for the lunches now." When the parents have an outstanding bill, the students DO have to prepay.

By this time it was spring break and the actual 10 day suspension would be up on April 2nd. Well, come April 1st, guess who calls me? Pat Law, that is where he stated that he "changed his mind".

@froggylake, why the he** would i make up this story? I can give you exact dates, not that I NEED to prove anything to you, but here it is..March 20, 2013 I got the FIRST phone call from PSHS stating that my son was getting suspended for 10 days and he(Eschbacher) will recommend expulsion to the BOE. March 28, 2013 we had an informal meeting at the BOE so that we could each explain our side and Law would then make the decision as to agree with PSHS or to end it there and send him back to school when the 10 days were up. Well, it did not take a rocket scientist to predict which side he would agree with. The next step was that I either "go along" with their decision or ask for a hearing in front of BOE (imagine that), where I could bring a lawyer. I informed them there was absolutely no way I was just going to "go along" with them and that I wanted the hearing and I WILL BE BRINGING A LAWYER!

After the meeting Law took Eschbachers side (shocker) and said he was going to recommend the expulsion and that I should just "agree" with it. I refused and went straight to speak with a lawyer, who agreed to take our case, and I immedietly let the BOE know this. Long story short...a couple days later, I received a phone call from Pat Law saying he had "CHANGED HIS MIND" and my son was back in school two days later! If he is not willing to do his job and ensure that the kids are being treated fairly and with respect, he needs to step down and let someone with a backbone do it!

EVERYONE of these idiots need to be fired! Pat Law should be first on the list to go. He should be ashamed of the job he is doing. My son went to PSHS and just graduated this year and we have had nothing but problems with the so called principal there. The problems started a few months ago when he TRIED to have my son expelled from school for the rest of the year for comments he made on twitter, AT HOME, ON OUR COMPUTER, and the comments had absolutely NOTHING to do with school. We had a meeting at the BOE with the moron Law and another guy and he allowed Eschbacher to talk to us like we were trash, called my son names, like something a five yr old would do, and was a total arrogant jerk!

Wake up people! Some are having a hard time here! Providing lunch for their children may help some keep their heads above water for a time. This may allow them to pay other bills or put the money into our community and be a business boost. No, let's send the money over seas to dictator led nations or give the money to other school districts to help their children. Why wouldn't we want to see our tax dollars in our own community. It is the "Mathew effect" the rich get richer, the poor get poorer.

Let's set the record straight. The federal government has already provided free breakfast and lunch for kids who need those meals. At the same time, the state provides a food card for those same families, even though these children are provided 10 meals per week free (given they are in school 5 days per week).

My children do not need government entitlements, nor do many other children in Wood County. I agree with previous posters who have clearly stated that federal entitlements are not only creating a society of generations of adults who are content with being supported by my taxes and others who are gainfully employed.

It's time for the government to require that every person receiving an entitlement participate in a community service or other work related project that benefits the tax payers who support them.

The BOE socialites have NO idea what is put upon staff daily in the schools! When you don't deal with the children individually every day, you can convince yourself, students don't need that! You expect the school staff to work miracles but you won't give them the tools to do it with! They educate them, counsel them, bath them, clothe them, and now YOU deny them meals?

What's the problem. Want free lunches for kids? Just get a therapist to say it would be a violation of their IEPs. Maybe someone needs to put up a Bad Lunch Fort.

The Nazis tried population control too...called Project T-4. You want to roll like that? And China?? They are suffering from that population control by having a skewed female to male ratio. Bad example.

Population control worked for China and they are kicking our butts. Time to start making people responsible for their actions and ease up on the taxpayers. Maybe they need to tax people per child instead of giving them a tax credit.

@newworld- "If people can’t afford to feed a child then they don’t need to have one."

I hope that you or anyone in your family NEVER loses their job or run into financial problems. Because I guess the logical thing for you to do is to shoot your kids in the head.

Why can't the city of Parkersburg provide for schools within it's boundaires. After all, they just bragged about having 1 million dollars in their accounts.
