You make a valid point about the negative attitude among many in our area. But you have to ask the question why? For those of us that have grown up here as well as raised our families here, we have constantly been told by people like Mr. Burdette that the next "big thing" is around the corner. These people have made a career out of promising that downtown is on the verge of a comeback or some prominent retailer is eyeing the area and while we wait we lose more and more businesses. A new business like a new donut shop is appreciated but hardly replaces the loss of a hospital for instance. The negativity is caused by discouragement more than anything else. Believe me I hope that the next words out of Mr. Burdettes mouth is one of an official announcement about the cracker plant and not another "maybe".
