epsommite, You must really be in denial if you can't smell the poop plant. Maybe you work there and like that stink. You guys are doing a good job giving all the welfare people free entertainment. Always good to keep your food stamp money close to home.

epsommite,Denial is the first sign you have a problem. I don’t need to do business in Parkersburg and others don’t either. If your happy with the poop smell and the poor gene pool Parkersburg has to offer, then that is great. My company will take it’s money elsewhere. Don’t care about who the mayor is, Don’t care about where your parks are. Fix the roads, get rid of the smell, run the bums out of town and it might be more appealing to other businesses.

epsommite, The smell has got worse since they did the up grade. Maybe you lived there so long it is just a natural smell to you. Bad when you think it's alright to have a bridge that beats your guts out, roll the window down to pay toll and get knocked out by the smell and then have a bum beg you for money.Yea...P-burge is the place to be!

The Ohio River is a cess pool. Having a park next to it is like inviting dinner guests to sit on your toilet for a meal.

NotForLong620 said "Your praise of Newell is noted, however you may wish to gain some perspective. He didn't walk on water at Point Park." Did you ever think that maybe he chose not to walk on water and chose to be humble.

The bands are selected by and paid for by Downtown PKB which is sponsored by the Ross Foundation. The Point Park construction was a federal project with very little local funds involved. The only cost to the citizens of Parkersburg is handling the logistics of each concert, i.e. trash cans, barricades, etc and also the maintenance of Point Park which is very little compared to te benefits received by all area residents.

"CarCrusher" does the City Park or Southwood Park have an Amphitheater and a View of the River?

I'd say "newworld" is thinking about Steubenville Ohio,

And if they did charge admission, I wonder who would be the first to complain about it??

I agree facsimile, put the free act at Southwood or City Park and you would have drawn as many if not more.

tallchris1960, I'm sure the smell is there even without me there. Who would think to put the poop plant right where everyone has to smell it to get into a city. Nothing says "Welcome to our city" like the smell of poop!

Who wants to see a "cover band"? Why not try getting a real one. Stop spending money on parks, which we have enough of, and get some REAL talent here. You might actually make a dollar. Homecoming has become the same way..some has been or nobody knows band..I don't even bother with it anymore. 5 cheap rides 10 Napolis vendors and bad music, why bother? I know...build another park!!! That will make Parkersburg money!!!(not)

Charge admission and THEN see how many shows up; Free is always in the budget.

If they didn't have the park there wouldn't be any free entertainment!

The "hundreds" of visitors came for the free entertainment, not for the park.

Any idea who was awarded the beer concession or who gets the donations from the buckets?

I have to say as a life long resident of Parkersburg. The Newell administration has added more recreation venues than any other administration that I can remember. Other administrations have done a very fine job of maintaining and upgrading existing venues. I am talking about new venues. Giving the the younger and older citizens more choices. Things to be proud of and to promote a reason to live and stay in Parkersburg.

Don’t care about the park, Parkersburg still smells like digested sauerkraut poop.

The Point Park Music Series kicked off Friday night bringing "hundreds of visitors."

Remember comments like this: "Point park is a waste of money that the city doesnt have" or, "What a waste of money its always flooding" Or "Its is a complete waste due to location and how many times in the past has it flooded. or, "Newell is wasting money by building this park outside of the floodwall, when he knows how often it will be flooded and have to be rebuilt and cleaned up." or, "I still am trying to figure out why and who decided that this location would be a great place for a park. Seems to be a waste of money to me" Where are all you naysayer now
