Mr. Editor, I think you are 100% correct. And with the response posted by HSOPVolunteer, it would appear that here lies the problem. According to all media reports the County Commissioners have been very helpful and supportive of the Humane Society. The City of Parkersburg is the government entity who cut all of the funding and the County Commission moved in to save the day. However, the problem is bigger than that. At at time when local, state and federal governments are having a hard time stretching the taxpayer dollar, and have had to make cuts and at the very minimum hold the line we then have the humane society demand and demand and demand more every year. It has to stop someplace. Mr. Gainer is correct, they are being held hostage. The two best solutions would be either have a massive change of leadership at the humane society or have the county commission zero out funding for the humane society and start their own shelter.

No County Contract funds whatsoever have been nor will be used to pay for construction or operation of the low cost spay/neuter clinic. None. Construction has been acheived through fundraising, grants and donation. Operation will be funded by the clinic itself.
