A "good quality teacher" does NOT pull stunts like the Bad Kid Fort incident. Children deserve better than this to lead their educations. In my opinion, the teacher was disappointing in the performance of her job and the members of the board of education and the superintendent were more so in the performance of theirs.

The best that can be hoped for in the case of Ms. Terrell is that she learned from her poor judgment, and will handle future issues with more compassion and care, rather than by bullying a differently-abled child. I hope the administration has taken steps to provide assistance in the classroom for teachers who have children who may be perceived as disruptive. It may not be the teacher's "fault" that the child was placed in her class, but neither is it the child's "fault" that he was placed in her class. He deserves a quality education and to be treated with respect, and if that requires an aide be present in the classroom to assist, so be it.

Unbelievable. I know people make mistakes but how is it ok to let kids see a teacher be the bully? I honestly believe almost all teachers are kind, caring educators. Ms. Terrell is not one of those. What does it take for a teacher to be fired int his county?? Now I believe the other teacher in the Harlem shake incident deserved to be re-hired. He deserved to be suspended for not paying closer attention to what the kids were doing but he did not deserve to lose his entire career for it. So I am not one those on a teacher witch hunt. But any teacher who would do this to ANY child no matter what the circumstance is not a good quality teacher. The fact they "snuck" this vote in disturbs me a lot. There are several BOE members who will never get a vote from me again.

beepbeep why do I get the feeling you just go into the comments section of hot topic articles and argue the controversial point? I am so sick of hearing "special needs" mixed into a "normal" class. Aspergers kids are especially smart. they should be penalized for a few quirks? You have to just love playing devils advocate because I cannot any one human being can be so ignorant and mean spirited for fun. If you are then I truly feel sorry for you.

Beep beep, I am guessing your either a member of TheB.O.E. that voted to rehire this teacher or your the husband and or wife of one of the members of the B.O.E. either way it is just an example of the reason we need to limit the amount of time these folks can keep getting re-elected. It is ridiculous that the B.O.E. not only voted for 1 teacher at P.H.S. back to work but now 2 teachers on what I consider pretty bad judgement. Limit the time these "puppets' have in office.

They rehired a teacher that more or less couldn't do her job in handling children AND they rehired a teacher who took his pants off in class to show he was wearing his WIFE'S hot pink spankies???????? I'm glad my children are grown and out of Wood County Schools.

If this had been my child he or she would have been taken out of that school. Some of these children can not speak for themselves so they can be treated however. I do not think this teacher should be rehired. An understanding teacher of autistic children would not have done this to a student. It is not right that she should be rehired. What are you going to do when she really loses it and physically hurts a child???? The gym teacher has nothing to do with this. So don't try to distract with his story.

People throw around the term "bully" like it's akin to to a thrashing. Maybe it's time that teachers were allowed to take back their classrooms. It's no secret that the western world's kid glove treatment of students and parents isn't working!

The board made the right decision.

Special needs kids should have never been put into the regular school system, not to discriminate but because teachers are not trained to deal with special needs children, thats the reason we had seperate schools with teachers trained and qualified to deal with these kind of situations!

What does it take to get fired? What did the third PHS teacher do that was so bad now, compared to the other two? Many the News needs to find out.

Hopefully some different people will run for BOE. They reverse every decision they make.Wood County has some well qualified people for these jobs ,and we need them to lead the school system.

Just an observation from both this decision by the BOE and the one on Mr. Young. Both stories about the meetings in the Parkersburg News note: (Young meeting) Board member Tim Yeater was absent. (Terrell meeting) Board President Tim Yeater was absent. Nothing like making sure you're there for the tough votes.

Good for the board not taking the bullying from the parents and using common sense. While it was a childish act by the teacher, it doesn't constitute firing her. Besides, I seriously doubt it will ruin this boys life. Unless of couse the parents keep telling the child nothing is his fault. Toughen up parents. News flash my kids nor yours are perfect.

Regardless of the BOE's decision - I'm more discouraged by the reporting of the story. After moving from DC, I guess I grew accustomed to quality news, but this reporting is laughable. If this were an Op-Ed, it'd be okay, but there is so much slant and unknowns in this story that it makes me sick. Does anyone else think its funny that they constantly refer to this as an "international" story? Please. There's more to this story than meets the eye. Teachers made mistakes, but so did the Superintendent, BOE, and yes, parents and children in the matter. For "Fort," a responsible mother would never subject a child to this type of publicity - it should be handled privately. The child surely knows the difference between right and wrong and probably simply doesn't get good parenting. I make snap judgments but please...the mother embarrassed this city. Google image "Bad Kid Fort" and you get a pic of cardboard, spray paint, and cigarette in hand. Keepin' it classy

It does seem interesting that Yeater missed both votes, though - saving face, maybe? If it was a unanimous decision, then, let's place a little faith in the BOE that they made the right call. After all, we only hear biased info from the reporting of the story, so we'll never know the true facts. The Young issue is alarming - I haven't seen video, but wearing your wife's spankies? indicates you're A) pretty kinky, or B) planned this event (and had time to think about it). Terrell was seemingly trying to fix disruptive behavior, but what she did was in poor taste. I'd be curious to hear from PHS teachers and administration on these teachers' credibility.

Mr. Murphy needs to get his facts straight. The Board Agenda for Tuesday's meeting was posted online the Friday before the meeting. It is correct the list on the boards site is not in Chronological order, but rather Alphabetical; if he had scrolled down a little father he would have seen it posted. Just as it is now. This teacher made a mistake, there is not arguing that, but she did not deserve to be fired. IF you make a mistake in your job, are you immediately fired? Plus, she was never notified that she wasn't going to be rehired before it was on the Board Agenda, therefore she was deprived of her Due Process.

Horrible decision, once again in the world of public educators there is no real reason to do your job well. No matter how bad you are, no matter what you do, you'll have a job because the system protects its own. In the real world, in the private sector work force, being bad at your job or mistreating your employer's customers will get you fired (rightly so).

Madasheck How do you know she is a horrible teacher. I didn't hear any of the other parents calling for her head. Nor did we hear or see any other teachers, principals nobody calling for her head. The only people were the ones like you that bottom feed off of peoples mistakes and the parents of a now embarrassed kid because of the publicity these parents thought would garner sympothy toward them. Sometimes you need to just admit when your kid is wrong and deal with it at home not infront of the public eye.
