Manchin, Toomey should renew effort

April 28, 2013

At another time, in a different context, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin might have been successful in a proposal he and three other senators offered recently....

So Manchin is angry because he says the NRA lied about his turd of a bill? Well guess what Joe, lots of gun owners are angry that you lied about a need for this law.

There are background checks done on gun show purchases, as there are on internet gun sales as well. Manchin knows that too! But, all politicians know that only gun owners, and of course, political junkies actually research the issues. Most Americans rely on the "sound bite" answers. If the explanation lasts longer than 15 seconds, their eyes glaze over.

He also claimed that transfers between family and friends would be exempt from background checks. The bill did exempt family member gun transfers, it didn't say squat about a sale to your friend being exempt.

Joe bragged about being a gun owner to get elected. I hope WV gun owners remember how loyal he is to them come election day. My two Senators split on the issue, Portman earned my support. I'll work for whoever challenges Brown next time around.

Heck, let's outlaw nails and cars and dogs and airplanes and kitchen knives and gas stations know what.. let's just outlaw everything. how about we outlaw congress? our congressional leaders, senate, and executive branch are responsible for more deaths than any of those things.

By the logic of this gun control talk, we now need to outlaw pressure cookers because they were used in the bombings in Boston. get real people...

The senate has spoken, now lets move on to bigger issues like how to generate jobs and improve the economy. Gun control nuts... You lost! Case with it! Move on! I guess I made my point

Where is the internet address that one can go to and buy a modern firearm without the weapon passing through licensed dealers? If only 4% consider gun control(Gallup poll) a pressing problem, why the big push? Was it only because the President seemingly can't do anything to help the real problems of the economy and it provided a wonderful diversion for the masses? Was it because the evil black gun wasn't the problem but the person using it was? Where are the multiple articles condemning Dr. Kermit Gosnell for his atrocities or has he even been mentioned in this paper? He has killed thousands of babies and gets no ink. Why not a ban on forceps or suction machines?

How is it common sense to write new laws when current laws are being ignored? You can blame a lack of police or prosecutors as Biden did but that's an excuse. With only 6 of every 1000 crimes prosecuted, with gun show laws ignored, why will new laws work if old ones do not, particularly given the microscopic number of crimes committed with guns purchased from gun shows? Other regulations you support is the assault weapons ban, statically proven that it did not work and the size of magazines. Adding a folding stock or pistol grip to classify a weapon an assault rifle does no more to reduce crime than restricting magazine size yet you and the extreme left champions both. What you do not support is exempting concealed carry permit holders from undergoing duplicate background checks to exercise their inalienable rights. You claim you support common sense regulations but I wonder if you know what common sense is.

Do you support common sense gun regulations? Obviously the majority of people would agree to this question. Unfortunately, no one seems to be able to agree on what common sense is.

Would the Senator consider exempting current concealed carry permit holders from additional background checks?
