Hmm wonder what an 'average' (read not rich or connected) would have gotten for the same offense - anyone know? Just wondering.

This plea bargain is a joke and those responsible should be put in jail because they are obviously on the take.

At lest he dressed up for his trial and showed some respect toward the court.

Great comments from everyone as I agree with everyone. If his family did get him out of serving hard time, then he will be getting in trouble sooner or later. Should have given him an ankle bracelet for 2years to see where he goes next to get in trouble.

Instead of buying the kids way out of trouble try teaching him right from wrong. I blame the parents as much as young Mr. Stephan because apparently he hasn't been taught any values. A slap on the wrist won't solve anything because the next crime he commits will be worse. Eventually money won't be able to buy his way out of trouble.

Like father like son...Anyone else remember when a certain intoxicated someone ran straight through the light at the end of Rt 14 and Highland Avenue in Williamstown and crashed into DaVincis? That was the year DaVincis got their new addition. Often at the time referred to as the Stephan addition. What goes around truly does come around.

I mostly agree with the comments on here, except I wouldn't say Stephan "had a great lawyer". A reality check will reveal that he had George Cosenza as an attorney. Not exactly top drawer.

There is a LEGAL system and a JUSTICE system and they rarely meet in court.

In a nearly identical situation in Billings MT with only $1527 stolen, the two men received prison sentences of 5 years for the store clerk and 7 years for the 'robber'. The sentences imposed in the local case are why citizens have little faith in our legal system since so many people are able to buy their way out of jail time.

Randyb110 hit it on the head. It says a lot that neither the paper or the TV news mentioned that this kid is a member of the family that owns Peoples News. Small town news coverage at its worst, but more importantly small town justice at its worst.

justice system is so corrupt , this is the grandson of the poeple news owner , a 22,000.00 robbery fake or not happened he was a active participent yet he only get's charged with a misdameanor and gets no jail time .. why simply because his family has money to pay for great lawyer, poor defendants who did this would get a public defender and would have to wait months just to be indicted and would punished far more severely ,just watch how much time the other poor guy get's when he gets his day in court! all should be treated equaliy in the eyes of the law , thats the way we taught to believe but that is not the case ! money talks in court poor people go to jail! where 's the justice in that?????
