In 2001, our federal government spent $1.9 trillion while revenue was nearly identical at $1.9 trillion. Since then, revenue has reached record levels 3 different years and is project to reach $2.7 trillion dollars in 2013. We don’t have a revenue problem. In that same time period, expenditures have grown by ~ 100% with 2013 spending projected at $3.8 trillion even after the sequester.
