Its a darn shame our legislators allowed the gun kooks to derail the entire legislative process this year. Our senators and delegates are already infamous for lining their pockets with cash from the multitude of lobbyists who infest the halls of our capitol, but this session was particularly disgusting. We had a chance to make significant improvements in the quality of life in this state but once again we continued to spin our wheels by catering to well-financed carpetbaggers from out-of-state, as we have for the past 80 years or so.

It is unfortunate that home rule may be defeated by an issue that has little to do with the program. So many times West Virginians just can't stop hurting ourselves by voting against our self interest as a state. Stupid is as stupid does!!

Charleston, Huntington, Wheeling and Bridgeport took part in the initial five-year pilot. Overseen by a state board, home rule allowed those cities to "reduce taxes," streamline regulations, collect delinquent fees and target abandoned and blighted buildings. A legislative audit declared the pilot a success last year.

They don't need home rule unless you want to lose your right to vote for who runs your city, and how much increased taxes you are willing to pay. Let it die and never return again.
