April 3, 2013

West Virginia taxpayers should not be subsidizing the electric vehicle industry, which ought to be allowed to prosper or wither on its own merit....

If the state ends subsidizing the electric car industry then all subsidized industries in West Virginia should be treated the same. This newspaper seems to be selective in its opinion.

I still think the tax break is a great incentive for people buying the energy efficient vehicles. Toyota is selling their hybrids like crazy out here and they are the # 1 automotive car because they are light years ahead in the fuel economy since the gas shortages of the 70's. A person should be awarded for buying something efficient instead of driving a big junk truck that wastes gas.

As much as those vehicles cost, if they can afford them, they probably don't need a break. That money could be put to better uses, feeding kids, creating jobs, etc.

I do not believe that Ford received any bailout money and GM will never be able to increase the value of their stock that the treasury holds in order for the government to recoup the investment, thus the taxpayers will be stuck with seveveral billion in losses.

I see where Ford and Chrysler US sales were up in March. Ford’s sales were up 6 percent and Chrysler’s rose 5 percent compared with last March. General Motors said sales rose 6 percent last month. And republicans say the auto bailout was a joke!
