Sounds to me like Mayor Newell and the eight council members are trying to reduce existing taxes or fees.

FOP and denver, you guys ought to think before you write your stupid statements. There will be a day when these tax lovers will not be in office anymore. How can you be for a person that wants to constantly raise or invent taxes to place upon the citizens of Parkersburg. I say vote these city council members out to.

And just think, if Newell was as passionate about going after the deadbeat business's who don't pay their back B&O taxes. But he seems more concerned about dancing competitions and bike paths.

Pothole Bob wasn’t suppose to increase City revenue with the User Tax either. Fatman I have went to Belpre and Vienna every since he enacted the User Tax, I as well as many others refuse to feed this bottomless pit of a City.

Here goes Newell again tax and spend. What's going to happen when every body goes out of town to buy everything.i will go to Vienna, belpre,Marietta to buy everything before I spend more on taxes.hes going to hurt the elderly and low income just to help his friend.if we go to city manager we need to make it so no one in office now can be city manager.

Sounds to me like he will get rid of the B&O (helping his business friends) and sticking it to the rest of us. Way to go Bob. And you just know he will want to be city manager. Petty tyrant wants a kingdom to call his own.

"north26103" Mayor Newell said he has been "ADAMANT" any new tax established through home rule would be used to "REDUCE" existing taxes or fees, such as the city's "Building and Occupation Tax, which Newell said is a burden on local businesses."

"If we can reduce B&O tax by having even a half-percent sales tax, that is something we would do," he said. "We are not looking at INCREASING REVENUE, but finding better sources of revenue."

How is that punishing the voters? Sounds to me like hes trying to do whats best for Parkersburg. the local businesses, and the people of Parkersburg. Isn't that what a mayor is supposed to do??

during the campaign for mayor newell stated he had no plans for new taxes...WAAALLAAAAA....home rule which means one of two things. 1...a city income tax 2 a city sales tax. As Mayor Ed Koch once said. the voters made their decision and now they will be punished
