Round 2: Mr. Thomas, did you ever notice there aren't many legally blind doctors or nurses, let alone first responders. This is not carving out new territroy for the disabled. This is creating risk for everyone else. Do you really understand that everyone you touch can sue you once you have that EMT certification? Take a First Aid class like everyone else and call 911. Yet another example of not well-thought out thinking by the Marietta City Council.

Congratulations on having the determination to help your community. Now will an adult step up to get the semi-blind first responder out of the way before the city gets hit with a massive lawsuit? A legally blind person has absolutely no business being a member of an active response unit. Every person he touches automatically has a potential lawsuit against the city. A lawsuit they will win! First responders are not protected by the Good Samaritan Law so any action he takes to help someone makes the City responsible. Does the City's Insurance Underwriter know about this? I'm guessing they won't be impressed and will either drop the City or increase the rates significantly. I appreciate the motivation and intention as much as anyone, but, I don't want the City to send this person to help me or anyone else. As a Basic EMT he is more than worthless because during a transport, he is only allowed to drive the ambulance, not tend the patient. He is clearly a hazard behind the wheel.
