Whitney please do not presume to know what I would or would not do. My husband and I have donated both time and money to building Erickson and we are both Big Reds. South has received money from the BOE for Erickson and I didn't get on some forum whining and complaining about it. The fact of the matter is Erickson is usable in it's present condition Stadium Field is not and if your argument to that is that we don't need two stadiums then I will ask again, why did we need two when Erickson was built? Also, if the tables were turned do you honestly think anyone at South would say, No, we don't want the money we think it should be used for school buildings? The cross town rivalry for the kids is great but this craziness with the adults being nasty and childish is ridiculous.

This just gets more ridiculous with every post! Do any of you making such hate filled remarks really think anyone takes you seriously while you name call children you don't even know, or stereo-type these players as a whole by the actions of some? All while hiding behind the computer spewing your hate filled garbage. How would you feel if someone stereo-typed your children? I work on southside and it would be ludicrous to group all south students based on "some" of the ones that come in my place of employment. Calling them all drug addicts b/c a few of them are WASTED everytime they come in? Does that even make any sense? NO, not at all! This is ridiculous! It is a ridiculous battle over who's side of the river is better and that was NOT what this BOE decision was about so why are all of you making it out to be that?Name calling innocent kids, stereo-typing and bashing a football team full of CHILDREN!Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves b/c I for one am sickened by yo

phsparent stated "Funny how it's okay to waste tax money when it suits your agenda."

Same can be said about PHS. Do you honestly think all you Big Reds wouldn've sat back and accepted a $700,000 gift given to South by the BOE?!

I find it rather humorous that South fans are now saying we don't need two stadiums. So why was Erickson built? If we don't need two now we didn't need two then! Hypocrisy! Like it or not Stadium Field has been here for 90 years, it is a county athletic facility and should be maintained by the county and as of right now it is the only condemned facility which means time is of the essence. I know most of you would rather it just fall in out of spite, instead of realizing how many kids (not just PHS students) would be affected. Also, since some are so concerned about taxpayer money...during the state wrestling tourney the South head coach, sat in the stands with the South fans the entire 3 days, completely on the opposite side of the arena as the team she is being paid to coach. I for one am tired of hearing how biased the BOE is, everyone knows why she wanted the job including the BOE and they still approved her. Funny how it's okay to waste tax money when it suits your agenda.

WildKitty has some WILD ideas about making demands and lawsuits. As previously stated by another poster, there's a big difference between "improvements" and "repairs". And, the 4 board members in attendance obviously made that distinction as they voted for the repairs Tuesday night. They have some hard decisions coming up in the future, and I wouldn't want to be in their positions.

Kitty's idea of bringing a lawsuit or injunction is crazy. Maybe she should run for the next open seat since they can't seem to satisfy her. But, I'm not sure that any decision, short of a blank check for South would satisfy her.

Mothman, it's not crying or whining to voice legitimate concerns about the BOE's history of inconsistent and unfair policies on funding.

I'll also disagree with your claim that the prejudice begins with South Parkersburg, my experience has been quite the opposite and it goes much farther than schools.

You can't imply that you're on the high road while using the following statement:

"I gotta say that if I was the athletic director at either schools, I would end all scheduled games between the two."

Thanks Whitney, you can just call me Jmac. So if I'm reading this right we are going to spend $700,000 of taxpayer money so that PHS can make maybe $200,000 a year for five years. Then we're going to be right back in the same boat? Is it just me, or does anybody else see stink all over this?

Two things I will remember, is that all the board members need to be voted on in the future, and I will never support another bond issue if they worry more about a stadium than keeping the classrooms updated, clean and dry!

JmacPburg....I wasn't at the meeting but there were 2 options. One short term fix for $900,000 and the stadium open by football season. Option 2 cost $2.5 million and would take a year to complete. The article states the work should be done by Fall. Which do you think they went with? So we will be back in the same position in 5 years.

And for the record, I graduated from PHS many years ago. However, I am disgusted by the behavior of PHS students these days. Any time I come across kids wearing PHS shirts, sweaters, etc all they do is speak in foul language about other schools.

Let the football team raise their own money for these repairs!!! What is it the football programs claim all the time? Oh yeah, that they're self sufficient! Clearly someone didn't save for a rainy day and now the tax payers foot the bill for these meatheads while other schools have their roofs cave in! All so we can watch some mediocre players toss around a ball.

I wasn't at the meeting, but I would like for someone who knows what they are talking about to tell me (us) what exactly we are getting for our $700,000. Is this a long term fix, or another short term patch? If this Board has approved $700,000 for a short term patch they should all resign, or at least be investigated for finanical malfeasance. Furthermore, if our school buildings have been allowed to deteriorate to the point of needing $16,000,000 in roof repairs, whoever is responsible for allowing that to happen needs to be held accountable. How did this happen?

@ Voyager: in regards to Williamstown's repairs - "In March, a cursory inspection of Williamstown High School's 40-year-old home bleachers raised concerns and led to their closure. Wood County Schools paid a large portion of the nearly $100,000 project to have the stands brought up to code in time for the start of the 2012 football season, said Sue Woodward, assistant superintendent of school services for Wood County." @ Canniballore: You are correct in that statement. MOV Youth Football uses the practice field.I have been told that Erickson charges to utilize their field for any event outside of school football. As far as events held at Stadium field they include, but are not limited to, games and practices for HS (PHS and PCHS) football, soccer, track, Middle school football, MOV youth football, MOV Semi-Pro Football, BACF, and other various community and school social functions (graduation, field day, etc).

The Jack Stephens Gymnasium was not paid for by Jack Stephens. It was part of the bond issue and the SBA money that upgraded the three high schools. If you look closely at all three projects, you will see that all three high schools have two gymnasiums and all three high schools need three gymnasiums.

I wish people would do their homework before running their mouths! The Jack Stephen's gym was basically funded by money from guess who? Jack Stephens!I can't believe the people being babies on here. Have we lost sight that maybe we should be setting examples for our kids? These adults/parents are not doing so!

Great News... for the future athletes.

I would like to take them on a trip to see how facilities look around the United States. SO they can see how some schools don't even have what they do currently. BIGGER COMMUNITIES AND DONATIONS ETC.
