Driving Drugged

Doped drivers also a threat

February 25, 2013

While driving under the influence of some drugs — even those perfectly legal to buy and ingest — can be just as dangerous as getting behind the wheel after too much alcohol, the practice can be more......

I've heard of drunk drivers killing people, but I've never heard of a case where someone smoking marijuana while driving killed someone.

Someone told me about an experience he had, of driving very slowly b/c he could tell his perception of time was distorted by smoking marijuana. Traffic was light at that hour (around daybreak), so no accident was caused by his slow driving.

But I'm not sure whether those who claim to have enough experience driving stoned, really have adapted, or have just gotten so used to driving in another world that they don't realize they're not fully in this world while driving? Too easy for any of us to do, even when not drinking or drugging.

Speaking of stupid driving. True story too. I was passed on I-77 years ago and both the passenger and driver had both of their feet out the windows.

I couldn't believe my eyes!

Also this state needs roving vehicle inspections like Ohio.

Working in a tire shop let me tell say. Many people drive around with badly damaged and broken down vehicles.

I've seen frames nearly rusted out. I've seen gas tanks held on with ratchet straps. I've seen leaf spring shackles almost rusted down to nothing. Heck I went to lift a truck once and heard cracking and popping. Yeeeep. Frame covered in tape painted black to match! Its a wonder more people aren't killed because of mechanical failures on other vehicles.

Oh and one of my fav-O-rite things to encounter.

Wrong lug nuts or studs that are too short for the wheel being used.

Had one come in once and literally the wheels were hanging on by 4 maybe 5 threads of each stud.

And crap like this is on the road everyday!
