spend $380,000 to save $1800.00 a year. Government math hard at work.

It's not just $1,800 annually. The article also stated that 1,667 manhours would be saved as well, which amounts to quite a chunk of change saved in conjunction with that $1,800. Not to mention (ugh, can't believe I'm about to agree with the resident troll), updating equipment in order to keep our citizens safe and ensure speedy response is absolutely necessary. If it's my child having an emergency or my parent having a heart attack, or my house on fire, I want help there NOW, and I don't want to wait on hardware failure. Spend the $380,000 and get the system upgraded.

Don't press your luck. I'm actually surprised you had a reasonable thought. It was almost painful to acknowledge that.
