I really don't know how he city of Parkersburg does business but in my line of business. I would do an investment request to buy machinery up to amounts of $ 5-10 million for the company i wok for. We would have a meeting with the Board of Directors to get the appropriate signatures. As a VP I had to do about 20 pages of work to justify spending any money because I had to explain what the ROI (Return Of Investment) was going to be.

Well Merritt just got in office and he is already causing problems I guess the ppl of wood county get what the voted for. I do not understand anyone in there right mind voting for someone who caused so much trouble the last time he was in office. Look what you have to look forward too the next 4yrs better think before you vote next time

My heavens the chief law enforcement elected official for WOOD COUNTY (not city of PKB)needs a truck , give it to him !Ken is an old war horse that actually works the road , goes on calls . Sandy had an old Mercury then got a new small SUV and its going back to narcotics task force. Its a given fact the Sheriffs Depts two biggest expenses are salaries and vehicles, you can't run it without them.

Well, we now see how the commission does business. first stamp Approved, then ask questions later. am I the only one who thinks this is backwards? Does Merritt need a vehicle ..yes.. does he need a NEW one .. NO. But, as in the past what Merritt wants Merritt gets, just hide the credit cards from him.

No Randy;if Sandy would have done this,no-one would have EVER heard about it until WAY long AFTER the fact. At least Merritt gets out there, and doesn't have to have a news camera within miles, unlike mug 'em Sandy.

In other words county commissioners you didn't do your job.You was elected to run the county, not let some Boss Hog sheriff tell you what to do.We got just what we deserve for putting him in office.

Ah geesh!!! Some of the comments on here are so childish! He is in office(not us) show respect for him and keep the past...the past!!! If a truck is needed... then he should have one. He shouldn't have to beg to protect Wood Co. Lets try to build up instead of tear down...

So Sheriff Merritt transfers money from the law enforcement deputies' salary line item to another line item for the purchase of a truck, and reports that he sees now problems in the future for salary funding. Yet, there's a pending agenda item regarding personnel at the holding center?

When Merritt is in office, money goes missing. The credit cards were brought up earlier, but does anyone remember the $16,000 that went missing from the jail commissary when Merritt was sheriff?

Merritt was elected to be sheriff not to be micromanaged by the Commission. All the comments are not justified that are being made about him. Usually when the blame game is played, it is to draw attention from someone else. I would like to know the amount of money that goes through the county commission and what it is used for.

My only question is why does he have to have a brand new truck. A used one in good shape should be good enough! Especially with the possibility of needing more personnel. I'd think that should be more important that providing the sheriff with a 2013 F150...that's just common sense!

$32,000 for a $27,000 truck? Merritt is starting his theft early this time!

OK wait, so he had to go to the Commission and get the OK, and they OK'd it... but now suddenly it's an issue. In my opinion, the Commission looks worse than Merritt over this. If it's so horrible that he requested a new vehicle, the Commission should have stopped it in the first place. Haters and supporters of Merritt are making him the focus when it's the Commission that could have stopped this if it needed stopped.

It's no wonder why alternative candidates don't seek office around here. Largely thankless and being a punching bag isn't exactly appealing.

keerock: Holding Center and deputies are two separate items. Holding Center has their own budget to operate from. They have had problems with personnel at the holding center ever since Sandy was elected. The main problem was Sandy,

What I was trying to explain is that I see no problem with what the sheriff is doing. It is not like he had already purchase the truck without telling anyone. Gee you people really need to have an open mind

Untill you cry babies put you life on the line every day, just shut up. What do you want the Sheriff to do,walk to every crime scene! One other thing, Belmont the $27,000 truck has to outfitted usable as a work truck for the sheriff. Most of you people, the Sandy lovers get over it.The county sent him packing back to where ever he came from.Ken is a strong man and will do the job.

I would guess for people like,Easygoing,Wildcitykitty628,marvin,Lightsout,Kerrock,sookie and Be;mont just to name a few it will be.All of you just set home and wait for your foodstamps, free phone, etc.Let the real men do there job.
