Hey Vortex- Do you live under a rock or with your head in the sand? THIS IS MERRITT.He just needs to hobble off somewhere and be with Sleepy the dwarf. Can you see him running to a crime scene! PLEASE-Sandy did not run a negative campaign but if all the truths would have come out before the election things would be different! Amazing the Commission wouldn't let Sandy purchase new vehicles to replace older high mileage ones for the safety of officers, but they shell out thousands to people who have been on the job for TEN days! Absurd-You are wrong THIS IS KEN MERRITT AND HIS CRONIES- Sandy is better off and he did good progressive things for the Sheriff's Dept-he had standards and expected the lazy Merritt Boys earn an honest paycheck-those who did not- did not last! Vortex do some homework about your buddy Ken Merritt. A person can only hide behind the religious cross for so long!

The newspaper has only started to get the full story. Chief Shawn Graham got a $6,000 pay increase. Merritt fired 1 employee his first day in office. It just happens that this employee investigated Merritt for embezzlement. Then Merritt fired another tax office employee after the meeting Thursday before the Commission.

how can the people who received the pay increases work with or even look those people in the face. This move certainly will create major distrust and hate within the office. Sad! Very sad.

Thunderbolt I think you are correct. This is most distressing. Surely this can't be legal? It certainly looks like politica retribution.

This article is most distressing; I can not understand Ken’s approval in garnishing employee’s wages to line the pockets of the Tranquill’s, surly not a sound decision with the public. A pay increase is one thing, but to give four, seven and eight thousand dollars per person in raises is questionable at least. Can anyone spell law suit.

This is a classic Bob Tranquill, take money from an employee that makes $22,000.00 and give it to your self so you can make in excess of $58,000.00 a year. Tranquill has done this every time he has been appointed Chief Tax Deputy. By the way the employee that got $7,647.00 raise is Bob Tranquill’s daughter in-law. Both of Bob’s sons work for the Parkersburg News so you better read this quick before it gets removed. I can’t believe Ken Merritt let this happen

Bob Newell is a lot like Barack Obama, The Kardashians, and Honey-Boo-Boo: everyone claims to hate him, but the majority of the people LOVE him.

The proposed changes were submitted to the county commissioners in a letter dated Jan. 4, but the commissioners did not take action on the request until Thursday... new news? hadn't seen this stated before

Nepotism and cronyism have plagued county and city government in West Virginia from day one. We don't hire the 'best and brightest', we hire friends and relatives. Salaries, pensions, and benefits continue to climb far past those of the private sector with the only justification being 'we are trying to keep in line with other counties'. It is little wonder the only growth industries we have in Wood County are crime and government. Our citizens have little faith in our 'leaders' and rightfully so. They talk a good game but in the end they are just politicians, looking out for themselves and their good-ole-boy friends.

Wow! I think Commissioner Dunn is on to something. This does not sound right. How can anyone go in a justify cutting salaries like that and then the only two that got pay raises have the same last name. Something stinks here. Could it be possible that those who took pay cuts voted for Mr. Sandy?
