I would hope this would make Parkersburg the best place to eat in the state. We should get some really great high end eateries coming to town instead of fast food or big chain restaurants. I hope WVU would open a taining restaurant for grads to test their skills on the public. Yummy...

Sad to say restaurants around here use a lot of pre-packaged ready to heat food. They don't need trained chefs and certainly won't pay what they should be getting. I hope it works out for them, but having been in the industry I know that not much more than minimum wage is what they can expect around here.

Baker, obviously you have no clue. There aren't a ton of jobs around here, but some. And a decent chef can be worth quite a bit of money even for local eatiers. Easily 40k-50k salary is justified.

I'm so glad that this program is beginning, especially in our downtown. Hopefully, these students, when they've acquired their certification will use their skills to stay in the area, either finding employment at one of the restaurants locally or maybe opening an establishment themselves. Personally, I would rather eat at a place that's owned locally that isn't a chain restaurant than others. Chams, Mango's, the Polo Club, Fishbone... all great places to eat and I know at least one of those proprietors doesn't have a culinary education at all. Marietta has a thriving downtown with lots of small, locally-owned eateries that offer a lot of variety. It would be great to see Parkersburg thrive like that as well.

Well maybe Matt Jones can hire a graduate to cook at his new gambling location on 7th st.He'll have extra money since he won't have to pay B&O taxes for 5 years.
