"The so called Sheriff needs to start denying about 95% of these requests"

Based on what? If they fit the criteria then they are awarded the privilege under WV state law. Their reasons for getting a permit are immaterial,. That is if you are the Constitutionalist you claim to be.

Only shortage we have on ammo is because the federal government brought over 60 billion rounds of ammo last year. Now they want to take more of our freedoms from us. Then we have a dingbat, that wants to sign more EXECUTIVE orders, which is a way to give just one person, all the power to take all our r ights away from us.

Do you need a gun permit to protect your home? Can ammo be bought on welfare money?Don't blame Obama for ammo shortage,Bush started the war. Who gives the drug test on the permit,or do they take there word. They won't take your word on anything when you get your drivers lic.Just wondering.

I think that hindsight is speaking out of his hind end and just trying to start a word war with his provocation. He is a perfect example of the type of person who shouldn't have a firearm as he is showing a desire for conflict mentality.

Only in the USA could the public buy more ammo than law enforcement and have a shortage. Next thing our military will not be able to get ammo because the public has it all. These permits will only give the bearer the right to carry concealed, not on your hip in public. The issue of liability has not been addressed and should be if accidental discharge would injure another person or their property. They make you carry it on your vehicle, why not on your guns. it's only fair.

Unless I'm totally remembering incorrectly, West Virginia is an Open Carry state. You can can carry a sidearm on your hip under state law.

Madasheck is correct, WV is an open carry state but there are some grandfathered local open carry bans not preempted by state law, such as the City of Charleston.

Even more reason to require liability insurance for permit carriers. Guns on hips? The old wild west is only for the western channel on TV. This will promte tourist trade for sure. NOT.

Well WB, I wonder why Charleston doesn't allow it, could it be because that's where the law makers are from? Just saying...

a few points of order are necessary here. when the police and security personnel are the only ones allowed to possess firearms and ammo then George Orwell's prophetic book 1984 will become a reality and "big brother" will be watching you. to ComeOn: hindsight101 is no constitutionalist in fact he said yesterday the constitution should be burnt. for my last point: i would suggest the police department should employ a system for ordering the supplies and equipment to reload the ammunition they need for target practice, obviously they wouldn't want to use reloaded ammo for duty purposes but this would be sufficient for target practice. i welcome any constructive debate on the subject.

Now on the article 101 is just being a troll He is mad the corrupt sheriff is gone. He can't stand it Ken is back. Jbennett. You in the past have claimed to serve your country have you not? If I am correct. Why do you hate the freedoms you defended so much? Also please educate yourself on the laws and how the government gets its ammo. They usually do custom order because in large bulk purchase it is cheaper and packaged different. Like vacuum sealed battle packs. Yes WV is an open carry state and yes some cities were grandfathered in. Now as far as insurance for CCW or open carry holders. What is that really going to accomplish? More frivolous law suits from the likes of those who would sue a corporation then want to run the county they sued said corporate job provider? Would it bring back those it killed? Would it provide a get out of jail free card to those who only maimed someone with poor marksmanship rather than studious skill and hit their intended target? Get real man.

Enforce existing laws first and if necessary, tweak so the existing laws can be effective.

Have you noticed, the left wingers who want to eliminate gun ownership of private citizens support abortions or of the most defenseless.

@gorilla - i read your last comment and had to speak up even though it means little to y'all - just want to help you be a little more logical/rational whatever you want to call it. but please stop with the spreading of misinformation and fear.

first off, what news source do you get information that 'left wingers' want to eliminate gun ownership? sure, there are the few and far between extreme idealists that want to live in a world without guns - but to make a group statement about how elected democrats and our president want to do away with all gun ownership? give me a break. to spell it out for you, a ban on some assault-style weapons does not mean every single freaking gun! and if your response is 'oh hey they are banning this now JUST WAIT UNTIL THEY BAN THAT'... then i say this - they are elected by their constituents and would not be re-elected if that were the case, hypothetically speaking.

and secondly, gorilla, when you say those who 'support abortions' is a good headline catcher with little substance. i support the woman's choice to decide abortion if that is the case. i am not the one to tell someone else what they can and cannot do with their own reproductive systems. neither are you.

thank god your anti-choice position is a thing of the past.... that's all i gotta say!

They are elected by their constituents and would not be re-elected if that were the case, hypothetically speaking. (I sure hope that is the case, the problem we are up against is people that blame others and society for their shortcomings in life and want benefit from the government in some form tend to vote democrat, they probably could not care less about guns as long as they are getting their gov check..I am speaking on a national scale, not specifically to WV)

for example in maryland...the urban area's in Baltimore City and around DC that tend to be ghetto vote overwhelmingly democrat...wonder why...probably because they want to continue getting their gov support and if they want a gun they will get it anyway regardless of the gun law...not to mention ilegal aliens in MD can get a drivers license (when you get a license they hand you a voter registration card and nobody checks ID when you vote in maryland..aka..illegal aliens overwhelmingly vote democrat as well because they get benefits in maryland like in state tuition if you are illegal alien).
