PARKERSBURG — At least one local resident has died due to influenza-related illness, officials confirmed Wednesday....

Lots of people have passed away in the past few months. They don't specifically say from flu, but from the other things related, like dehydration, severe bronchitis, etc.The elderly succumb daily to these related illnesses, but it goes unknown, because they are older and have other illnesses.Nursing homes have no wish to be known as "infected" nor do they want you to know the residents are confined to their rooms. Not allowed in the hall.Even the meals are served in their little cubbyholes. I know not all nursing homes are this way, and I applaud the efforts of this particular home for trying to control the epidemic. It is really hard on my relative to not be able to walk each day. Hopefully, not all old people are going thru this. Bottom line,a lot more people are dead of this stuff than you know.

my son attends Fairplains Elementary and when he came out of school yesterday, he said they had sent 10 students home yesterday with the flu. About an hour after he came home he started feeling sick and now he has it also. when I called the school this morning, I was told one class only has 3 students today. the woman advised me to just keep him home again tomorrow even if he is feeling better because the flu is so bad.
