I know everything and eveyone personally. I was at Roswell when the aliens landed. i was on the grassy knoll in Dallas back in '63. I was a close friend with J. Edgar Hoover. How dare you question my authority.

Recalling an article from the fall ( ***********newsandsentinel****/page/content.detail/id/564238/Wood-sheriff-releases-report.html ) about the fiscal report from the Sheriff. Part of it states "The sheriff's office has acquired more than $3 million in military surplus equipment, helping it save money and be better prepared for operations. Items included in this surplus were four Humvees, a commercial shredder and desktop/laptops computers."
Having excess in some departments and knowingly leaving shortages in their VITAL areas is a wasteful and impractical concept. Why couldn't they sell off some of their excess (and probably outdated) electronics and equipment from one department then do the necessary paperwork to transfer those funds to the 911 center?

Why would the 911 center more than double their staff in just a few years? How much overtime, expressed as a percentage of the total payroll, did they pay out in 2012 compared to 2007?

Some of you all need to understand, the 911 center is probably one of the most efficient agencies of the county. With 15 dispatchers, that is only 4 dispatcher plus 1 supervisor per shift, and if you factor all the agencies being dispatched and increasing call volumes, that's alot of multitasking. An updated CAD will do wonders for them. It will only make things more efficient. Believe me, there is no waste of resources with the 911 center and it's director and staff. It's a some of the other agencies couldn't operate with the efficiency as the 911 center.

Randy Lowe is the most self serving person in Wood County; his department is consistently playing the CYA game; he has spent the last 30 years feeding at the public traugh; he should try it in the private sector and see what efficiency really means.

It's amazing how many people come through the doors of the commissioner's office looking for a free handout...from the Animal Shelter and now from 911. Enough is enough. Our paychecks are getting smaller from all these spendaholics!!

No waste? I know they have some pretty spiffy leather chairs, even have their logo embroidered on the headrests. Those must be about $500 each.

Look at your phone bills,a little thing tucked away called 911 fee; That adds up to alot of corn for the trough. Also sounds like some inflated number from the vendors.Sounds like lowe is trying to keep up with the Jones (Wash.CO.) on new and expensive toys.

AaronL....you hit the nail right on the head. It's truly amazing how much the local government collects from EVERYONE with the 911 fee!! Just think about it...nearly everyone has a cell phone and/or a home phone and all those people and lines are paying this fee. Now this crook wants to take more money from us by panhandling the Wood County Commissioners. CUT HIM OFF!!!!!!!

Is that why you threw your ex state cop buddy Smith under the bus this round, just as you have many others? Any-one with a phone is already paying the bill, there high and mighty,so your root licking won't work on that one. Seems as if the MAIN qualification up there on snob hill is to have retired from some leo position.

Aaron has a good point! Where are all the 911 fees going if they are not being banked for 911 services?!
Hindsight... When you feel the need to publicly chastize those who do not share your same ideas do you think anyone REALLY cares what YOU think? I doubt it. Your closed minded diatribes are monotonous.

Over eight hundred thousand just in the equipment fund, not counting whatever slush fund behind the works ought to be more than enough to start from scratch to dwarf Chucktowns operation.

ask yourself how your computer that you use occasionally is working after five years of service. Now consider that 911 computers are being used 24/7 365. Look at how many calls they answer. Just one accident may generate 15 phone calls from anyone with a cell phone within the area. Add to that the system and 911 is used to dispatch all police, fire and ems calls for Wood and Wirt counties and you can see the equipment may need upgraded. It's a no brainer if you want 911 to be efficient and be there for you when you need help. I've talked with some people that know about the capabilities of what could be offered to the citizens such as texting, sending photos of accidents, etc with up to date, modern equipment and Wood County 911 has always been a leader in the state as well as on a national level. Why not ensure that our 911 center continues to provide efficient service to all.

As for those that think this is just a spending spree, why not go out and look at the center and see what they do. they have open house every year as well for the public to see how 911 operates. If you think it is wasteful, just remember the derecho, Belleville tornado and the earthquake tremors and how many calls were received during that time by five people. I've heard the system was slowed down because it couldn't keep up with all of the calls generated but they still got everyone taken care of even after their frontier phone lines went down, no fault of the 911 center. Equipment is expensive, take a look and do some research before you start complaining about something just because you don't like who is running the show. I may not be a fan of the man but he has made sure the community has up to date equipment and it's time for an update to ensure equipment failure doesn't lead to someone in need of injury or worse, death.

You're full of it Henery, they have more than Million $ lottery winners at their disposal, and that's EVERY year, not just happenstance.Bet YOU don't have electric bathroom trash cans,do you?The waste from these entities are abysmal.Prioritize the calls, and stop playing "Nancy Drew" would speed up calls and response time.A barking dog vs.a car wreck means alot.I hear some dispatchers saying" I know that name, let me look for 99"s".Snob Hill needs to do it's job; take calls;prioritize, and leave well enough alone.
