Cutting Corners

Commissioners serving themselves, not public

January 2, 2013

When politicians say they have a plan to help people, the people’s baloney radar should go off immediately. Most of the time that plan is going to help the politician a whole lot more than the people....

For $36,000 a year I would quit my job and be a full time commissioner for 16 hours a day (gotta sleep sometime!) I have a good deal of common sense, the good of Parkersburg at heart, oh and just for you Harry I pay my taxes.

I believe Mr. Smith is 100% right. In addition, I wonder where Mr. and Mrs. Gainer pay there "income" taxes. If they claim residency in Florida, then they pay zero income taxes as it is a no income tax state. If that is the case, how can Mr. Gainer even legally servce? I think arron is correct also, nearly 40,000 a year is pretty good money for only working 2 days per week. If they cut the meetings in half, cut the salary in half.

Someone still mad over the election? Since you stated you have plenty of money(Ought to have after the Dupont deal) and you didn't need the job, what's the big deal? Make some promises you now can't deliver? Sounds personal now.If they want to cut meetings:fine, but then cut salaries also. While I'm not a great fan of Couchy,it does seem he tries on some worthwhile projects.

With all due respect Jim, the only reason that you want the commissioners in session instead of actually working is so that you can publish detailed articles twice a week about such exciting topics as "new parking lot inspection". Seriously, if you look at the agendas over the last two years (or more), most of them are nothing more than approving the prior minutes, signing purchase orders, invoices, or whatever. Steve and Wayne are right that this is ridiculous. The only reason Blair wants to meet twice a week is so that he can get you to put his name in the paper.
