Ewing, Wasco helping those with special needs
MARIETTA — Ewing School and Wasco Workshop are continuing in their missions of helping special-needs students from pre-kindergarten through adulthood .
“We still offer special education pre-school and special education for some school-age children,” said Katie Keating of Ewing School. “We have six classrooms, three in the morning and three in the afternoon. We also offer two school-age classrooms for children with severe disabilities.”
Ewing School also offers space for a Head Start classroom which is open to students from low-income families. Altogether the school serves 49 children in preschool who have disabilities or developmental delays, and 10 non-disabled peers. The school has 15 school-age students as well, of which, Keating said, two are from outside of the county.
“Our main focus is Washington County,” she said.
At Wasco Workshop, the focus is on finding job opportunities and training for adults with disabilities.
