Fisher beats Anthony Reale by 1 at WVa Amateur
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — The crowd of multiple winners at the West Virginia Amateur now includes Tim Fisher.
Fisher’s birdie with one hole to play gave him a one-shot win over defending champion Anthony Reale at The Greenbrier resort on Thursday.
Fisher’s 2-under-par 68 on the Old White course left him at 6 under. He adds to his title in 2005 and becomes the 15th multiple winner of the event that began in 1913.
‘‘This one meant a lot to me,’’ the 27-year-old Fisher said. ‘‘I won’t be a one-hit wonder.’’
The win gave Fisher an insurmountable lead in the points race for the West Virginia Golf Association player of the year. Earlier this summer he won the state Four Ball tournament and finished fourth — including low-amateur honors — at the West Virginia Open.
Reale, who shot even-par 70 Thursday, was the Amateur runner-up for the second time in three years. He lost to Pat Carter by two shots in 2006.
