PARKERSBURG—With a berth in Saturday’s Night of Champions title tilt resting on every possession, No. 1 ranked St. Marys survived a slow start to defeat No. 3 Parkersburg Catholic in overtime, 59-55, Monday at the Crusaderette gym. “Great players step up in great games and there were two of them out on the floor tonight and both played great when their teams needed them to,” St. Marys head coach Howard Meeks explained. “We are just fortunate that one of them (Kelsea Fickiesen) plays for us.” Led by Fickiesen’s game-high 29 points—nine coming during the extra four-minute period—the Blue Devils upped their mark to 17-1 on the season and captured their second consecutive North Division crown. “Humbling,” Meeks said. “When you look at quality of coaches and players we have in the North, it is very humbling to be the team that will represent it in the Night of Champions. “Our only hope is to do a better job of representing it on Saturday.
