Heisman watch on Kessel
Ripley student-athlete Lexy Kessel wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a lawyer. She’s already won one case without even stepping foot in a courtroom. The senior was recently honored as the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award female winner for the state of West Virginia. Over 50,000 individuals applied nationwide and from that group 10,848 school winners were selected. Kessel, along with classmate Brandon Foresha, was one of 20 individuals to make the cut as finalists for the Mountain State. As a member of the volleyball team, Kessel’s credentials are quite impressive. In addition to being named a two-time Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, she was a two-time all-state selection and three-time MSAC first-teamer. As a four-year varsity letterwinner, Kessel set school records in career kills (1,749), single-season kills (701), career digs (1,658), single-season digs (742) and hitting efficiency (.371).
