Junior golf flourishes in West Virginia
There’s no argument. Junior golf in West Virginia is alive and well. Just refer to what transpired during a three-day span in the final full week of June. First to occur, West Virginia Golf Association officials declared the W.Va. Junior Amateur tournament a complete sellout. The deadline for registration was still nine days away, but by June 23 the field had already matched its 120-golfer capacity. On that following Thursday, the WVGA issued a release noting that the Top Flite Junior Tour had officially sold out for the summer’s events. Keep in mind, there were still seven stops remaining in the regular season in addition to the Tour Championship scheduled for The Greenbrier on July 31. “It has been great seeing the tour grow over the years as well as the young men and women who have participated,” Top Flite Junior Tour founder Larry Martin said. The tournament series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and looking to do it in style. A celebration is planned for Aug.
