Wirt County Fair
August 8, 2008

The 49th annual Wirt County Fair will include four days of entertainment, carnival rides, track events, 4-H and FFA animals and exhibits, activities and attractions at Camp Barbe 4-H Camp on West Virginia 14 in Wirt County.

Daily admission is $6 per person for ages 3 and up and free for children age 2 and under. The season ticket is $20. All tickets include carnival rides and entertainment with paid admission. Senior Citizens Day will be Aug. 7 when seniors ages 55 and older pay $2 until 6 p.m.

The carnival hours are 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 6 to 8 and 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 9.

This yearás entertainers will include Phil Jones and Friends, Tom and Carol Wriston, Heavenás Rush, MIXX and Josh Oldaker. There will also be track and bog events for ATVs, trucks and tractors.

Gospel group Heavenás Rush featured DJ Hersman, Bob Heflin, Brian Lafferre and Jeff Arnold combines four-part gospel sound with new southern gospel music.

The group MIXX features Casey Powell on lead vocals, Peggy Read on lead and backup vocals and percussion, Danny Cox on bass, Rodger Unger on drums, Charlie Read on guitar and lead and backup vocals and Gary Starcher.

Oldaker is a country and gospel singer from Quiet Dell, W.Va. He has performed at several fairs and festivals around West Virginia and opened for artists like Sugarland, Shannon Brown and Poverty Neck Hillbillies.

For those who love the excitement of the track and the roar of trucks there are events every evening, with the Mud Bog finishing the week out. Mud Bog will start at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9.

On Aug. 5, exhibits will be entered from 4 to 8 p.m.

ö 1 p.m. ä Judging of exhibits begins.

ö 3 p.m. ä Youth contests; Livestock show and showmanship for rabbits.

ö 4 p.m. ä Carnival opens.

ö 5:30 p.m. ä Flag raising and dedication of the fair.

ö 5:45 p.m. ä Wirt County High School Band concert.

ö 6 p.m. ä Registration for ATV Rodeo (track).

ö 6:30 p.m. ä Little Mister-Miss Wirt County Fair Pageant.

ö 7 p.m. ä Livestock show and showmanship for hogs.

ö 7:30 p.m. ä ATV Rodeo (track); Miss Wirt County Fair Princess Pageant.

ö 8:30 p.m. ä Queen of the Fair Pageant (pavilion).

ö 11 p.m. ä Carnival closes.

AUG. 7

ö 8 a.m. ä Gate opens.

ö 3 p.m. ä Youth contests.

ö 3 to 4 p.m. ä Senior Citizens Choir.

ö 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. ä Registration for Pretty Baby Contest (dining hall).

ö 3 p.m. ä Bluegrass Variety with Independence Road; Haybale throwing contest; Youth contests; Arm wrestling contest (show ring).

ö 3:30 p.m. ä 100-foot Banana Split; Mud Bog (track); Kiddie Peddle Pull registration (pavilion).
