Community Fair and Barbecue
June 5, 2008
The city of Parkersburg, as part of its neighborhood revitalization efforts, is hosting a free community fair and barbecue from 6-8 p.m. June 5 at McKinley School.
City council and the Urban Renewal Authority have designated the area between 13th Street and 19th Street, Avery Street and St. Marys Avenue as a target for neighborhood revitalization using Community Development Block Grant Funds. This community meeting will allow residents of the area to find out more about the city's plans for the area and programs available through these funds.
Residents will find information on other programs from the city and outside organizations. Community organizations also attending the fair include Habitat for Humanity, Wood County Recreation, Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library, Mountain State College, Childrenás Home Society, Consumer Credit Services, the Boys & Girls Club, area Girl Scout troops and 4-H clubs. Residents can find information about forming a Neighborhood Watch, the COPE police program and city code efforts in the area.
The goal of the community fair is to involve the residents in the revitalization of their neighborhood while informing them of options for other low or no-cost programs in the area, city officials said. Food will be provided. The event is free.
