Gossip Girl: Psycho Killer by Cecily Von Ziegesar

November 14, 2011 - Amy Phelps
I love an out there twist. And when I heard about the new book, "Gossip Girl: Psycho Killer" by the series author Cecily Von Ziegesar, I knew I had to track it down. "Psycho Killer" takes the events from the first book but makes Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen crazed murderesses.

Serena's been kicked out of boarding school (one too many bodies) and is back in New York again. She wants to murder her best friend, Blair's boyfriend, Nate Archibald, so she and Blair will be tight again. Except for the fact that Nate cheated on Blair with Serena before she left for boarding school and she may still have feelings for him...

Meanwhile, Blair's not so happy her ex-best friend is back because she'll no longer be the 'it' girl - in school and possibly with Nate. He's been acting so strange lately... When Serena murders someone at Blair's party, she decides that anything Serena can do, she can do better and the maiming and murder sprees begin!

This book captures the high society in all of their darkest - feuds, cheating, eating disorders - and then adds even darker humor with two socialites (and some of their classmates!) whose go-to answer to a problem is to knife someone. It is cheeky fun that will make you giggle and cringe. I'd love to see this strange retelling of the series continue!

"Gossip Girl: Psycho Killer" is published by Poppy. It is $10.99.
