This week's roundup of things that may interest only me

June 2, 2011 - Jody Murphy

Last week, news broke that indicates WVU's football head coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen may have a drinking problem. The Charleston Daily Mail broke the story (and YEAH it IS a story) that the coach was escorted from a Kanawha County casino. Longtime former Wheeling Intelligencer Sports Editor Doug Huff penned a column (that's an opinion piece) in which he claims Holgorsen had a similar incident in Wheeling. A few days later Huntington Herald-Dispatch columnist Chuck Landon took things a step further and threw lots of crap against the wall to see what sticks. Landon, take it for what it's worth, claims Holgorsen has as many as six such incidents and his predicament has linked him with athletic director Oliver Luck, i.e. he goes, you go. Neither Huff nor Landon cite any credible or on-the-record sources, so take it for what it is - unsubstantiated gossip. ... Remember Craig Farnsworth, former Parkersburg High and Marietta High football coach? He resigned this year from Marietta High after one year citing his wife's new job and the likelihood he would be moving. To where? Parkersburg? He's been hired by the Wood County BOE. Hmmm. I don't know Farnsworth, but I will say he doesn't like to stand in one place to long. .... Did you see Wednesday's synthetic drug bust in Parkersburg? Did you read last week's AP stories about the state's overcrowded jails? Here's an idea - one I have been touting for more than a decade - that is gaining steam. Don't think it will happen in this state anytime soon though. ... Note to U.S. Rep Anthony Wiener; women, according to this, are not excited by Twittered pics of male parts. You wanna excite a girl? According to the article send her a picture of folded laundry or a made bed. Bonus points if you can fold a fitted sheet! ... Martinsburg Journal blogger; hero or bad guy? ... Grand Rapids Michigan seems like a cool place to live. They got a great sense of themselves. ... Mom in England who falls asleep everytime she laughs.
