Drill, baby, drill... Environment be damned!

May 11, 2011 - Jody Murphy

At some point are state lawmakers going to wake up and realize the hazardous fallout of Marcellus Shale drilling? This is going to continue to happen, yet too many of those in power and those seeking power (running for governor) seem to be turning a blind eye to the potential environmental impacts of drilling in favor of jobs and the possible economic boom. The DEP needs to be given more oversight, more manpower and a bigger hammer (Big enough that even Thor says that's a big damn hammer!) to swing when this kind of stuff happens ... On the bright side, I am glad I don't live in Pennsylvania. ....
Under the things I am reading this week ... Ever heard of the Barkley Marathon? It sounds Turrible. ... Two tales of engagement woe or why a man should NEVER spend more a few grand on an engagement ring. ... Man in Dubai commits suicide by jumping off the world's tallest building (I won't give away the ending, but you can probably imagine how it ends) ... I don't have a whole lot empathy for this gay college student. There's no way he didn't see this coming. ... With all the love for the Navy Seals I'll bet we see more fakes popping up. The fact this guy patterned some his exploits after a Steven Segal movie shoulda been a pretty good tip-off. Also, a really crappy excuse by the paper for its lack of fact-checking. ...And finally, neat story on a 19th century tycoon who left his fortune to his great, great grandkids. well, it's neat of you aren't the man's kids or grandkids.
