City budget on our website

April 11, 2011 - Jim Smith
For several months there was discussion before Parkersburg City Council and among the city citizenry surrounding the need for a city user fee to balance the city budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The preliminary budget was prepared, the user fee was adopted and the city budget was finalized and adopted by city council.

The News and Sentinel published several stories about the budget, highlighting various financial parts of it and showing how or why city funds were being budgeted.

Obviously, though, the newspaper could not publish the city budget in its entirety due to its length and available news space in the newspaper. But documents of such length are perfect for the www.newsandsentinel.com website where space is not an issue and readers can browse the entire documents, print it on their owner printers and study it for whatever purpose they might have.

The ability to place such lengthy, detailed documents on the website is the real advantage of having an active, reader-friendly site that contains both information published in the newspaper and additional information to supplement that which is published.

If you want to see the entire budget, go to www.newsandsentinel.com and click on the Parkersburg City Budget button on the left side of the home page and it will download a .pdf file of the budget.
